Genealogy Workshop

Genealogy 101 with Mary Risseeuw

Have you ever wondered about your family, ancestry or wanted to create a family tree of your own?  In this beginning genealogy course you’ll learn how to start researching your family tree, from digging through those boxes in the attic to determining what questions you want answered about your family history.

We will discuss how to find and analyze resources, develop a research strategy, and how to use online genealogy databases. The information provided in this class does not apply to just one state or country, so you can learn about your family lineage no matter where you’re from. This class will be helpful if you’re just starting out or would like to get your research back on track.

Join us on Wednesday, May 18 from 2:00PM-3:30PM to begin your journey! Class size is limited to 12 participants. We will have some laptops available but you are welcome to bring your own.

Register by Monday, May 16, 2022 by either stopping in the library, phoning us at 920-564-2934 or emailing us at oostburgref@monarchlibraries.org.

The Library is open for basic services, browsing and essential computer use. If you prefer, the library is continuing to offer curbside service to pick up your library materials. It is quick, easy, safe, and convenient. Simply call the library 564-2934 and let us know when to have your items ready. We can have your items checked out to you and ready for pick up outside the building in a short amount of time.

Masks are encouraged and we ask that you social distance.

Furniture use is limited to two people per table. Sitting on the floor in a public space is prohibited.

Please review the following temporary policies that may affect your family members.

  1. Current polices mean students will not be able to use the library after school for gaming, socializing or while waiting for rides or practices to start unless they are actively participating in library services such as reading, homework or studying. Please plan accordingly.
  2. The meeting room is available for groups to use. A use policy must be signed and new protocols have been put into place.

Staff will be available and happy to answer reference questions for any patrons including students who are participating in schooling from home. We have put together an education resources handout for you which can guide you and your students to using the free reference resources available to you. Please ask for a copy.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us at 920-564-2934 or at www.oostburgref@monarchlibraries.org.
